Porkies

A bluffing game for the room

Liar liar. Pants on fire.

A true fact comes up with a bit missing. Everyone writes a lie good enough to beat it, then the room votes for the truth. Every friend your lie fools adds fuel, and the best liar of the night goes up in flames. Frankly, it's a privilege to watch.

How a question goes

The truth is boring. Lying pays.

  1. A true fact, with a gap

Same on every phone and on the telly. Something real, and strange enough that you'll doubt it.

Nearly every resident of Whittier, Alaska lives in ___

  2. Everyone writes a lie

Make it sound truer than the truth. Type the real answer by accident and it comes straight back: I said lie.

    an old army tunnel

  3. Everyone hunts the truth

Every lie goes up beside the real answer, no names on them. Pick the one you believe. Not your own. Nice try.

The reveal

Heat is the score.

Lies come out one at a time, least fooled first. Each shows who fell for it, then whose it was, and that player's pants catch fire. The truth comes last, on a plain card with no flames, because the truth never fooled anyone.

Three kinds of question

Trivia, then it gets personal.

Fact bluff

An obscure true fact with a blank. Beat it with a lie. Points for finding the truth, more points for every friend you fool.

Truth About You

Jack once got detention for ___. Jack secretly writes the truth and a lie of his own. Everyone else writes a lie that sounds like Jack. Plot twist season.

Guess Whose

Everyone answers the same question honestly, for once. Then you match every answer to its owner. Turns out you don't know your mates at all.

The full rules and scoring

Packs

Your town. Your topic. Your crowd.

The built-in bank is free at every preset, all of it. Want questions nobody at the table has seen? Make a pack.

A place

Ballarat, Bali, your old uni. Twelve fact bluffs, each checked against a source before anyone sees it.

A topic

The 90s, Formula 1, true crime. Twelve more facts, checked the same way. A fact that fails the check is replaced, never played.

Your crowd

A hen do, the work team, the family. Type a few safe details and get questions your lot answer about themselves. Nothing is ever invented about a real person.

A pack is ready in about a minute, and you can start playing before it finishes. Packs are bought in the app. A pack that fails its checks doesn't count against you. The details you give for a crowd pack stay inside that pack and nowhere else.

Presets

One fire, four temperatures.

The host picks who's in the room, and that sets the questions and the word filter together. A glance at the telly tells you what kind of night it is.

With a telly or without

Telly optional. Phones mandatory.

On a TV or laptop

Open the room on any screen and it becomes the board: the question, the reveal, the bonfire, and a host who reads every lie out with a perfectly straight face. Phones write and vote.

Phones only

No telly, no problem. Every phone shows the question and the ballot, and the reveal plays on every phone at once, the fire scaled to fit. The pub table will do.
